In September 2020, PST Sport completed the installation of a full size 7,865 sq/m synthetic turf pitch at Hemel Hempstead Town FC’s Vauxhall Road stadium. A further 1,700 sq/m of synthetic turf was used for re-turfing the existing 6-a-side artificial surface making a total of 9,565 sq/m of turf supplied and laid. The stadium pitch which meets FIFA Quality Pro standards is one of the best surfaces in Europe.

New Stadia Pitch Continues Proud Hemel Hempstead History
Over the previous couple of seasons, the club had to cancel fixtures and turn players and teams away as they could not support the additional use on the old grass pitch. The reality is that with grass, you are going to lose matches, training and commercial opportunities to the weather. The ability to train, and play, consistently on a top-class surface will give players that extra edge, maximising the use of the club’s facilities.
The new state-of-the-art 3G pitch will enable the club to provide outstanding training and competition facilities that can be played all year round. The new stadium pitch is now used by the 1st Team, Ladies Team, Under 18’s Academy Team and all the club’s youth teams from the ages of 6 to 18 years old. The stadium pitch and the 2 no. 6-a-side pitches will be used 7 days a week, 52 weeks of the year engaging the entire local community as-well as commercial bookings.

THE LATEST IN THIRD GENERATION DESIGN
Hemel Hempstead Town FC Owner and Chairman, Dave Boggins appointed PST Sport in July 2020 to construct a new artificial pitch. The club play in the National Conference South League and the owner required the best surface which would meet FIFA Quality Pro standards. PST went with our top of the range SUPERB 45 laid onto a preformed shockpad.
We designed the sub base and drainage system to accommodate the new surfacing solution to deliver the most technologically advanced artificial turf pitch.
The project commenced in July 2020 removing the natural turf pitch in preparation for sub base works and drainage installation. Importation and laying of 4,000 tonnes of approved stone created the pitch base and was graded to approved levels. SUPERB 45, our premier artificial product was then laid onto a preformed shockpad with sand and pro-green rubber infill.

Innovative Sports Turf Technology
The chosen surfacing solution for Hemel Hempstead Town FC was SUPERB 45, an advanced artificial turf system balancing durability, resilience, and softness to produce a superior sporting experience. SUPERB 45 is a top-level football system, designed to be installed onto a performance shock pad to provide the ultimate football experience.
Meeting FIFA Quality Pro and Quality standards, SUPERB 45 is an advanced yarn that excels partly due to the C8 polymer used during the manufacturing process and the yarn’s advanced diamond shape makes it strong from every side.
It is this C8 polymer yarn that gives SUPERB 45 better resistance with a longer lifespan and an extended warranty of 12 years. SUPERB 45’s dense two-tone fibres result in a greener top and add to the overall natural look. The fibres are soft to touch, very hard wearing and exceptionally resilient. With a dtex of 17,000, fibre thickness of 400 micron and PU backing, SUPERB 45 is extremely durable and has withstood extended lisport testing of 400,000 traditional and 25,000 XL cycles. The carpet will be infilled with a stabalising layer of silica sand and a performance layer of green coated SBR plus shock pad to mimic the best natural grass fields.
The end result is a state-of-the-art, first in its kind artificial grass pitch at Hemel Hemstead Town FC where players of all ages can play at Vauxhall Road, rain or shine.

Hemel Hempstead Town FC played their first home match of the season on their new synthetic turf pitch. The pitch was tested to FIFA Quality Pro standards, ensuring it meets the highest standard of pitch promoted by the World’s governing body.
6-A-SIDE SURFACE
The existing carpet was lifted from the pitch and removed safely from site. The existing stone base was regraded to approved levels. Our Max 50 artificial turf was then laid onto a preformed shockpad with sand and pro-green rubber infill.
