Artificial grass rugby pitches

Given the ongoing rise in popularity of rugby at all levels, PST Sport understand the impact that top-class facilities have on the development of a rugby club both within the local community but also by raising the club’s status and ultimately its on-the-field success. We are now the preferred choice for rugby clubs and schools who are seeking to bring their training and playing facilities to the next level.

With the challenges of our unpredictable Irish climate our artificial turf pitches are the necessary choice when it comes to seeking a weather-proof, safe and high-quality playing experience.

To meet the demands of rugby, a pitch needs to be strong, durable, resilient, safe and player friendly. A PST Sport rugby turf pitch will not only add significantly to the development of your club at a playing level but will also open new opportunities for increased income by hiring your astro turf surface to other codes and to the public in general.

Our artificial grass partner is CCGrass who, in March 2018, were appointed as a Preferred Synthetic Turf Producer by World Rugby. This ensures that all rugby pitch projects will have achieved specific performance criteria and attained key player welfare characteristics upon completion. CCGrass is now one of only four manufacturers worldwide with Preferred Producer status for FIFA, FIH & World Rugby further highlighting both our companies commitment to excellence.

Muntser Rugby – Irish Independent Park

In May 2018, PST Sport commenced works on replacing the existing natural grass field at Munster Rugby’s Cork base, Irish Independent Park with a 10,500 sq/m modified synthetic turf pitch. The installation project was complete by early August, followed by independent field testing to achieve World Rugby certification.

World Rugby testing

World Rugby’s testing procedure was extremely strict and focused on vital criteria that are an integral part of the game of rugby and key components of both player performance and game quality. The head injury criterion (HIC) which is essentially the height it is safe for a player to land from, head first, achieved 1.6m exceeding the standard of 1.3m.

The end result is a world-class playing surface that will provide rugby players, at all levels of the game, with the very best rugby experience and further enhance the development of rugby at grassroots level.

“To meet the vision of Munster Rugby the pitch had to be the very best. With two years of design works coming to fruition in 2018, our Munster Rugby pitch is like no other in terms of its make-up. This new state-of-the-art pitch will allow Munster players of all ages to play on the same surface as their heroes, year-round, and whatever the weather.”
