After securing a 35 year lease on Horsfall Stadium, works commenced in June converting the club’s old natural grass field to a new synthetic pitch. By scanning the entire surface we were able to design a sub base and drainage system to accommodate the new surfacing solution to deliver the most technologically advanced artificial turf pitch.
Our chosen surfacing solution: Max BiPlex, a hybrid artificial grass laid over performance shock pad on an engineered sub base, designed & built to meet FIFA Quality Pro and World Rugby standards.

Designed by PST Sport’s Managing Director, Colin Teahon and manufactured by FIFA and World Rugby Preferred Producer, CCGrass, the Max BiPlex 60 system installed at Bradford Park Avenue is a unique surface designed to meet FIFA Quality Pro and World Rugby standards.
Max BiPlex is a hybrid two-fibre product, extruded to 12,000 and 5,500 dtex respectively. Max BiPlex combines the Max monofilament yarn, made with C8 polymer, with a strengthened fibrillated yarn to create a unique surface. The result is the best possible pitch, combining football performance with safety and durability to meet the club’s demands.
Innovative Sports Turf Technology
The concept of combining two different types of yarn to create a hybrid turf is a step forward for dual sport pitches, creating an innovative surface that meets both football and rugby league requirements.
Max yarn is a crinkle shaped fibre, encouraging “springback” when the fibre is flattened, making it exceptionally resilient, whilst the fibrillated yarn spreads to help contain infill splash.
Once installed, the new surface was infilled with a base layer of sand and a performance layer of SBR. The new pitch, completed at the beginning of September has been independently tested to the highest quality – FIFA Quality Pro and World Rugby standards.

Project Progress
The project commenced in June 2020 removing the turf from the pitch in preparation for sub base works & drainage, with completion and subsequent testing to FIFA Quality Pro & World Rugby standards achieved in September.
