Responding to the Needs of a Growing Club
In recent years, Colemanstown United FC had seen a surge in growth and success, with a notable increase in the number of teams and player participation. However, the sheer volume of training sessions, games, and unpredictable weather conditions had posed a huge challenge for the existing grass field, hindering the club’s progress.
Project Scope
The project included comprehensive groundworks, featuring the installation of a 16m x 17.5m x 1m soakaway, and an enhanced drainage system to manage drainage efficiently. A stone subbase, and a dynamic stone layer were installed to ensure a durable, long-lasting playing surface. Additional works included perimeter kerbing, 2.4m high fencing around pitch perimeter (fencing panels to finish flush on top of existing 600mm wall around the pitch), and the installation of gates. The pitch also features ducting and bases for future-proof lighting, ensuring the facility is prepared for future upgrades.
The chosen surfacing solution was 50mm Pride artificial turf laid over 10mm preformed shock pad. Pride 50 is an excellent choice for heavily used football pitches. Its diamond yarn shape includes ridges that increase the surface area of each fibre, retaining moisture longer and boosting sports performance. These fibres are incredibly soft to the touch, yet remarkably resilient, showing minimal wear even after years of intense play.
FIFA Quality Certification
As part of the project’s completion, the pitch underwent rigorous testing by Sports Labs to ensure it meets FIFA Quality standards, guaranteeing top-tier performance for years to come.

The new artificial grass pitch will allow the club to overcome the challenges of unpredictable weather and heavy usage, providing a durable, weather-resistant playing surface that ensures year-round playability. The new pitch will not only support the club’s growing number of teams but will also serve as a hub for local grassroots football and community events.
