2019 was a year of great success for PST Sport as we achieved some important milestones in our growth & expansion plans in Ireland and the UK.

We are proud to have played our part in helping schools, colleges, sports clubs and local authorities across a broad spectrum of sports by delivering exceptional sports surfaces over this past year and we look forward to helping many more in 2020.

Our mission is to ensure that people are healthy and well, mentally and physically by increasing participation in sport through the delivery of world-class sports facilities allowing players to perform to the highest level all year round.

2019 was our busiest year to date. In January, we completed the installation of a world-class 12,000 sq/m 3G GAA pitch for St Vincents GAA in Dublin.

In March we completed the installation of 4 x artificial grass tennis courts for Hospital Tennis Club in County Limerick. e offered the club a complete turnkey solution and managed the whole project from start to finish, including all related civil works. Ancillary works included fencing, netting, kerbing, ball wall and an access road.

In July we delivered a bespoke 200m artificial grass running track facility for Clane Athletic Club. The new athletic track was officially opened last weekend by Mr Hamish Adams, CEO of Athletics Ireland – everyone is excited for the future of athletics in Clane.

Also, in July we completed the construction of a 6,800 sq/m artificial turf pitch including full groundworks, fencing and netting for St Ita’s AFC in Donabate. In October, works completed rebuilding a subsided 20-year-old hockey pitch for Gravesham Sports Trust in Kent. And, as the year drew to a close we completed works on a a state-of-the-art 3G playing surface at St Francis FC’s home grounds, John Hyland Park in Baldonnel, Co. Dublin, a 6,000 sq/m all weather pitch resurface for Wolfe Tones na Sionna GAA in Shannon. Co. Clare and a world-class 7,638 sq/m artificial grass pitch resurface at The Hive, London, home of Barnet FC.

PST Sport is delighted to be working with Sarsfields GAA in East Cork delivering a brand new state-of-the-art artificial grass facility. The project which is due for completion before the end of 2019 will see the existing all-weather pitch resurfaced with 4,500 sq/m Superb high-performance artificial grass carpet. Ancillary works will include new fencing and kerbing as well as carrying out repairs to the existing netting.

A second part of the project will be the installation of a hurling wall positioned at the end of the pitch. On the other side of the wall will be an additional floodlit hurling skills area, fully carpeted and enclosed. This will ensure hurling sessions will be carried out in a safe and secure environment with traffic flowing freely through the complex. Works to include drainage and stone base, carpet installation, kerbing, fencing and netting. While the old hurling wall will remain and can still be used, the redesign area will utilise this wall for parking, creating 30 additional parking spaces.

Developed in association with our artificial grass partner CCGrass, Superb is the very latest in synthetic turf technology. The surface is extremely durable, resilient, soft to touch, and designed with maximum player safety and optimum performance in mind. The polymer used in Superb is stronger, softer and more resilient than used in other fibres, which helps create a great playing surface. All CCGrass pitches are heavily tested, before and after installation, ensuring Sarsfields GAA has the best possible synthetic turf pitch.

Minister for Sport, Shane Ross is set to unveil €40 million-worth of grants from the Sports Capital Grants Programme in the coming weeks. This is a massive boost to sports organisations right around the country and will have a significant impact on sporting facilities.

The current round of the Sports Capital Programme received a record 2,337 applications. With a focus on increasing participation in sport the scheme provides support to clubs and sporting organisations wishing to develop sports infrastructure in their areas.

In recent years PST Sport has worked with clients on numerous projects across all sporting codes that were made possible by the Sports Capital Programme. Our core business is the installation of high performing synthetic sports surfaces, from full size pitches to training areas for all sporting codes. Our extensive portfolio includes over 25 FIFA certified artificial grass fields as well as multiple pitches tested and approved to World Rugby, GAA and FIH.

Earlier this year Wolfe Tones GAA rolled out plans for resurfacing their existing all-weather pitch in Shannon, Co. Clare. This is a major investment and one that will take the club from strength to strength; “The new pitch will offer people a world-class facility to enjoy in all weathers, throughout the day and evening. This is mainly for our players so we can train all year round, improve players health and fitness and make us competitive in all age groups.”

PST Sport is delighted to be involved in such a significant development. Aided by the Sports Capital Grants Programme, the resurfacing project will begin with the removal and safe disposal of the existing carpet. Once this initial stage is complete a PST Base survey will be carried out to assess the condition of the existing sub base.

PST Base use highly innovative surveying and thermal mapping techniques to map out the pitch surface below ground. This allows us to assess the true condition of the surface and what condition the sub base is in. By identifying how a pitch base was constructed and the subgrade/formation condition we can then formulate a new cost-effective design to remedy the sub base and provide a long-lasting pitch base.

Once ground preparation works are complete, Phase 2 will see the installation of 6,000 sq/m of SUPERB 60 carpet and shock pad. We are delighted to continue our partnership with CCGrass, the world’s largest producer of artificial grass.

Superb 60 is a specially designed surface, featuring the advanced Superb yarn, which is stronger, softer and more resilient than other fibres. This is supported by a special “Thatch” yarn that curls down within the system, to act like roots in natural turf. This helps to create a more stable and player friendly base, ideal for GAA and rugby. All CCGrass pitches are heavily tested, before and after installation, ensuring Wolftones GAA has the best possible synthetic turf pitch.

In September 2019, PST Sport commenced works on a state-of-the-art 3G playing surface at St Francis FC’s home grounds, John Hyland Park in Baldonnel, Co. Dublin. This significant development is part of the club’s long-term plans for the future and will see the existing natural turf field replaced with our game changing artificial grass sports surface called Superb.

It was a vision that the club had for many years after seeing so many games called off due to poor weather conditions. With more games able to be played, the aim is to benefit not only the current players but the wider community for many years to come. The new pitch will open up new opportunities to the local area to get involved in sport and stay active. Another major benefit is significantly lower maintenance costs.

Sub base construction works got underway in mid-September. The project below ground is just as important as what goes on top and a well-built base is critical to pitch longevity. Through years of research and development we have developed a pioneering sub base design ensuring pitch stability for the long term and removing all uncertainty pre-construction. By working closely with our clients, we can offer a tailor-made solution unlike any other available in the market.

Phase 2 of the development will see the installation of 7,200 sq/m of SUPERB 50 artificial grass, produced by CCGrass, one of only four global manufacturers with “Preferred Producer” status for FIFA, World Rugby & FIH. At CCGrass considerable investment is made in research, enabling the world’s largest producer of artificial grass to produce the most advanced systems for sport. The polymer used in Superb 50 is stronger, softer and more resilient than used in other fibres, which helps create a great playing surface. All CCGrass pitches are heavily tested, before and after installation, ensuring St Francis FC has the best possible synthetic turf pitch.

In September 2019, PST Sport commenced works constructing a state-of-the-art hockey facility for Carmarthenshire County Council. This significant development is one of a number of investments being made by the council into the facilities operated under the Actif Sport and Leisure brand. Strategically the objective is to maintain and enhance the existing assets and invest into new facilities.

As a leading provider of synthetic turf sports surfaces, with over 12 years’ experience working with some of the biggest names in sport, PST Sport is delighted to be part of such an exciting project. The new facility will ensure a diverse and high-quality range of facilities is open to the general public. During the construction and installation phases 100% of the labour will be from South Wales and building materials will also be locally sourced.

The FastPro HF 18 hockey surface, produced by FIH Preferred Supplier, CCGrass, offers a true, fast and skilful game of hockey for players of all abilities. Featuring hard wearing, curly PE fibres, FastPro HF 18 is dressed with selected, small, rounded, clean sand, to provide a stable, attractive and long lasting hockey pitch offering exceptional ball speed and uniformity as well as enhanced durability.

The new pitch will offer people a world-class facility to enjoy in all weathers, throughout the day and evening; and will be open for hire by the public, clubs, schools and others for soccer, hockey and a range of sports and activities. Carmarthenshire County Council is committed to supporting the health and wellbeing of the people who live, work, study, and visit Carmarthenshire, ensuring opportunities for more people to be, more active, more often.

Synthetic Turf Hockey Pitch Resurface

One of our latest projects in the UK is rebuilding a subsided 20-year-old synthetic turf hockey pitch for Gravesham Sports Trust in Kent. With over 12 years’ experience building state-of-the-art sports surfaces we understand that the work below ground is a critical element in constructing an artificial grass pitch to guarantee its longevity.

Using the latest technology in sonar geotechnical surveying, we identified how the pitch base was constructed and the extent of the subsiding subgrade/formation. This allowed us to assess the true condition of the surface. We will begin with resolving these issues before resurfacing the pitch using 6,000 sq/m CCGrass FIH certified FastPro 18 sand dressed hockey carpet and shock pad.

As an FIH Preferred Hockey Producer, CCGrass launched the FastPro series with multiple systems tested and approved to FIH standard. FastPro 18 offers maximum performance and enhanced durability as well as improved player safety.

Here’s a snapshot of what the members of Youghal Athletic Club will get to experience as we finish off installing a new artificial grass running and hill track on the perimeter of the field. Work began in February for the 450m long by 2m running track. This is phase one of a large development for Youghal AC and the club’s long term goal is to be East Cork’s premier Athletic training grounds.

The surface is 50mm high performance artificial grass carpet with sand and crumb infill making it much easier on the joints. The low maintenance, all weather surface provides additional cushioning offering greater running comfort.
