A Club With Huge Ambitions – World-Class Artificial Grass Pitch Coming to Knocklyon United FC
Works are due to commence in the coming weeks on a 96m x 53m pitch resurface for Dublin grassroots football club, Knocklyon United FC. PST Sport is delighted to have been selected to returf the existing artificial pitch bringing the playing surface up to world-class standards.
A Club With Big Ambitions
Knocklyon United recently signed a 20-year agreement with neighbouring school, St Colmcille’s Community School to secure sole use of the all-weather pitch and changing facilities. The school has just completed an exciting new build project which includes changing rooms, showers and toilets located directly beside the all-weather pitch. Once complete, the new state-of-the-art facility will ensure the club will have the best possible surface to train and play on for many years to come.
Due to increasing numbers across all age groups, combined with the constant scheduling difficulties in the wet winter months, training on the all-weather pitch has always been a challenge due to the club’s restricted time on the artificial pitch in the past. Therefore, this new licence agreement will allow the club to maximise its use of the facility, benefiting all members.
Knocklyon UTD FC Chairman Dave Buggy conveyed the sentiments of the club saying:
“To have a facility like this is a significant step in bringing Knocklyon UTD FC to the next level. We are delighted that St Colmcille’s Community School saw the potential in this project and what it means to the community. The school’s support and PST’s expertise have been integral to making this project a reality and a success.”
This has been an ambition of KUFC for many years. To have a facility like this to play and train on is a significant step in bringing the club to the next level. The new surface will allow the club house matches all the way up to senior level going forward, something the club has sought for a very long time.
Key Project Elements
Works are due to kick-off in the second week of August and are expected to take 8-10 weeks to complete. Key project elements will include the removal and disposal of the old carpet, inspecting and regrading the existing blinding, removal of existing stone kerbs and level area and make good to received tarmac, supply and installation of 50mm tarmac, 150m2 concrete footpath, 120m2 of gravel footpath, perimeter kerbing, repairs of existing fencing and netting, recess area for dugouts, and replace floodlights with LED. The chosen surface is our Pride 50, a top-level football system balancing durability, resilience, and softness to produce a superior sporting experience.
